Men’s Golf Set To Compete In GLIAC Championship This Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's golf team will compete in the 2017 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship this weekend at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio after recording its lowest tournament scores of 2017 in its last two matches.

Spanning three days, the GLIAC Men's Golf Championship begins Friday, April 21 at 12 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, April 23, with final round action starting at 8 a.m. Competitors will play three rounds of golf, and the tournament will mark the second, three-round tournament of the spring for the Panthers. The Virtues Golf Club was named the top public golf course in Ohio in 2016 by Golf Magazine.

In its last tournament, ODU recorded a second place finish at the Ted Barclay Memorial Classic at the Denison Golf Club in Granville, Ohio with a total score of 603 (302-301). The low score of the year for the Panthers came at the MVNU Cougar Classic, where they shot a total team score of 597 (300-297) and finished in third place overall.  

Leading the way for Ohio Dominican is senior Austin Goodridge (Lima, Ohio), who is shooting a career-low average round score of 76.4 this year. Goodridge has finished in the top six in each of the last two tournaments for ODU and boasts a winning percentage of .648.

Junior Ryan Thompson (Dunfermline, Scotland)has improved on his average by 1.4 strokes this year, averaging a round score of 76.9. Thompson achieved season-low round scores of 74 at the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate and MVNU Cougar Classic this spring.

Coming off consecutive top 20 performances is senior Eric Thompson (Miamisburg, Ohio), who placed in a tie for sixth at the MVNU Cougar Classic with a 148 (75-73).
