BLACKLICK, Ohio — In its first match of the 2016-17 fall season, the Ohio Dominican men's golf team placed eighth and seniors Eric Thompson (Miamisburg, Ohio) and Austin Goodridge (Lima, Ohio) finished fourth and seventh overall at the 2016 ODU Kickoff Classic at Jefferson Country Club.
The Panthers took eighth with a total score of 628. Goodridge led the squad with a total score of 149 (71-78), tying for seventh amognst all golfers. He also co-led the field of competitors in Par 3 scoring, posting an average 2.90 (-1) to tie for first.
Thompson competed as an individual, placing first among individual competitors and finished in a tie for fourth among all golfers with a 147 (73-74). He finished second in Par 5 scoring, posting an average of 4.60 (-4).
A total of 12 teams competed, with 98 golfers playing 36 holes spread over two rounds.
Indianapolis earned team champion honors for the third-straight year, using a total team score of 583 to take first place. Indianapolis' Graham McAree earned medalist honors, shooting a 139 (70-69) to claim first place individually.
Sophomore Drew Wayman (Wapakoneta, Ohio) finished with the second-lowest team score for the Panthers, shooting a 159 (82-77). Wayman was one of five players to eagle a hole, posting a two on the Par 4 number one during the second round. Freshman Ryan Simi (Newark, Ohio) ranked third for Ohio Dominican amongst team competitors, shooting a 160 (75-85).
ODU will travel to Hawkshead Links in South Haven, Michigan for its next tournament, the GLIAC North Invitational, on Saturday, September 17, with second and final day action taking place Sunday, September 18.
