O’Hea Leads Men’s Golf into Fourth on Day One of Strimer Invite
DELAWARE, Ohio – Freshman Conor O'Hea (Middletown, OH) shot the low round of the tournament and Ohio Dominican's men's golf team finished the first day of Ohio Wesleyan's Strimer Memorial Invitational in tie for fourth place Saturday afternoon at the Oakhaven GC in Delaware.
O'Hea stands atop the field of 76 golfers with a two-stroke lead heading in Sunday's final round after blistering the front nine of the par-71, 6,830-yard course for a 34 en route to new season low of 72 (34-38). Senior Gary Wright Jr. (Warsaw, OH) and junior Tyler Sebert (Grove City, OH) finished in a nine-player grouping in seventh with rounds of six-over 77, while Sebert carded the low back nine of the day with a 35.
Junior Kevin Hartoin (Cincinnati, OH) and freshman Eric Brown (Batavia, OH) came home in tie for 29th after each shooting 80, and one stroke back in a tie for 37th were juniors Connor Stookey (Milford, OH) and Matt Culp (Pickerington, OH).
As a unit, the Panthers ended the day with a combined total of 314, tying Columbus State CC for fourth, but are just four shots back of the leader Wooster. On Sunday, the tightly grouped field will have eight teams beginning the final round within 16 strokes of the Fighting Scots, including five schools within just five shots.
