COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team dropped a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup with Walsh by a final score of 80-64 Saturday afternoon in Alumni Hall.
ODU was led by junior Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) who accounted for 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The only other Panther in double-figures was sophomore Tahj Curry (Fort Wayne, Indiana) with 10 points.
The Panthers fell behind 12-2 over the first five and a half minutes and Walsh would up that lead to 23-11 with 8:11 remaining in the half.
ODU would answer with a 16-4 run over a span of 6:40 to take their first lead of the game at 28-27 on a Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) three. Walsh would close the last 1:29 of the half to take a 31-30 advantage into the locker room.
With the game tied at 37-37 with 15:30 remaining, Walsh would use an 8-1 run recapture their lead at 45-38 to which they would not give that up.
The Panthers were able to get within two at 45-43 but that would be the closest they would come as Walsh converted on free throws and answered any Panther runs.
ODU drops to 12-10 overall and 8-6 in the conference while Walsh advances to 15-7 overall and 10-4 in the G-MAC.
The Panthers head into a road trip at Lake Erie on Thursday, February 7 with tip set for 7:30 p.m.
