Casanova Scores Career-High in 83-69 Win at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team defeated Tiffin by a final score of 83-69 Saturday afternoon in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest in the Gillmor Student Center.

The Panthers were led by junior Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) who tallied a career-high 20 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting while grabbing a season-high seven rebounds. Fellow junior Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) matched Casanova's 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds himself.

Senior Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) scored 14 points on four threes while grabbing five rebounds and junior Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) had 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

With the win, the Panthers advance to 12-7 overall and 8-4 in the G-MAC while Tiffin drops to 7-13 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

The first half saw the Panthers jump out to a 15-10 lead at the 13:01 mark but a 9-4 Tiffin run knotted the game at 19-19 at the 10:00 minute mark.

ODU would then go on a 12-4 run to gain an eight point lead which would be their largest of the half sparked by a pair of Hoyng threes.

Tiffin would cut the Panther lead to just two at 34-32 with 2:48 remaining in the contest but ODU would get their lead back up to six at 43-37 before a pair of free throws for Tiffin sent the teams to the locker room at 43-39.

The second half started with the Dragons cutting the Panther lead to three at 47-44 with 16:59 remaining in the contest.

ODU would get their advantage up to 12 at 60-48 on the back of a 13-4 run with Hoyng hitting a pair of threes, Hickey hitting a three along with Varence making a pair of layups.

The Dragons would cut that deficit in half at 62-56 with an 8-2 run with 9:48 remaining.

The Panthers would answer that run with a 12-4 run to put their advantage back up to 14 at 74-60 with 6:03 remaining.

The closest Tiffin would get the remainder of the contest was eight as ODU held off the Dragons the rest of the way.

The Panther defense held Tiffin to just 39.1% shooting (25-of-64) and just 16.7% from distance (4-for-24) while the ODU offense shot 47.7% (31-of-65) but just 33.3% (8-for-24) from distance.
