INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- Ohio Dominican men's basketball junior Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week as announced from the conference office Monday morning.
Varence averaged 21 points per game along with 23 rebounds per game in the two wins this week while shooting 55.5% (15-for-27) overall, 3-for-3 on three point shots, and 90% on free throw (9-for-10).
In the 91-61 win on the road over Davis & Elkins, the junior forward set an Ohio Dominican record along with a G-MAC record with 25 rebounds. Varence also poured in 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting and 2-for-2 from distance. He finished the game with 18 defenseive rebounds and seven offensive boards.
In the 74-70 win over Alderson Broaddus at home, the Queens, New York native grabbed 21 more rebounds including 17 defensive rebounds and four offensive boards. Varence also scored 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting and 1-for-1 from distance along with 6-for-6 at the free throw stripe.
To fill the stat sheet even more, Varence averaged two blocks per game along with one assist.
Varence and the Panthers head into the break with an 8-3 overall record and a 4-1 conference record. They get back on the hardwood Wednesday, January 2 as they travel to West Virginia State to take on the Yellow Jackets with tip set for 7:30 p.m.
