Men's Basketball Toughs Out Win Over Wisc.-Parkside

HILLSDALE, Michigan – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team defeated UW-Parkside by a score of 84-69 Wednesday afternoon at the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Hillsdale.

The Panthers had four players in double-figures led by junior Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) who posted 20 points including five threes on the afternoon.

Sophomore Tahj Curry (Fort Wayne, Indiana) scored 18 while senior Michael Simon (Hilliard, Ohio) and junior Michael Scott (Hebron, Kentucky) each had 16, a career-high for Scott.

Hickey and Scott also led the Panthers with seven rebounds apiece while Curry led ODU with five assists.

In a back and forth first half, there were eight lead changes throughout the first 20 minutes.

The teams traded baskets up to a 14-14 tie before 5-0 runs from each team tied the game once again at 19-19 with11:30 remaining in the half.

The largest lead of the half for ODU came at 30-24 on a Curry layup with 6:22 remaining. Parkside would then go on a 7-0 run to take a 31-30 lead before ODU finished the half 5-2 to take the Panthers into the locker room with a 35-33 lead.

ODU never gave up that lead in the second half, shutting down any Ranger run.

With the score 43-41 with 16:11 remaining, ODU went on an 8-2 run capped by a Curry three to lead 51-43 with 14:14 remaining.

ODU took a 10-point lead at 59-49 on a Hickey three with 11:35 to go before the Rangers cut that lead back to three at 59-56 at the 9:40 mark.

The Panthers maintained their lead between three and 10 points over the next seven minutes and 10 seconds holding a 75-65 advantage with 3:25 remaining.

ODU held their largest lead of the contest at 84-67 on another Curry three with 11 seconds remaining.

The Panthers shot 51% from the floor while the Rangers posted a mark of 46%.

The Panthers will have the weekend off before opening Great Midwest Athletic Conference action Thursday, November 29 at Walsh with tip set for 7:30 p.m.
