VIENNA, W. Va. – Senior guard Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) scored 25 points and Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team shot 57 percent as the Panthers won their fifth straight game, all by double figures, defeating Ohio Valley 97-82 Saturday.
The Panthers (5-2, 1-0 G-MAC) never trailed as they eclipsed the 92 point mark for the fifth straight time as well.
Consecutive triples by senior Adam Cytlak (Van Buren, Ohio) and sophomore Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) helped the Panthers take a 25-15 lead just over seven minutes into the game, and the Panthers would lead by as much as 14 (43-29) in the first half on a triple by sophomore Ryan Hoyng (Celina, Ohio) with just over five minutes in the half.
The Panthers hit 18-of-30 (60 percent) of their shots in the first half and took a 50-38 edge into the locker room, then started the second half strong as sophomore Hasan Varence (Queens, N.Y.) scored eight quick points to help take the lead out to 61-41 with 17:30 left.
ODU continued to click offensively, with another jumper by Varence and consecutive triples by senior Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) extending the lead to 25 less than seven minutes into the half.
Varence finished with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and Waugh chipped in 13 points and six assists with no turnovers, hitting all five of his shots from the field. Junior Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) had nine points and nine boards off the bench and Cytlak finished with eight points and six assists.
Ohio Dominican returns home to host Kentucky Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Alumni Hall.
