Men’s Basketball Hosts Wright State-Lake, Begins Great Midwest Play At Ohio Valley

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Riding a three-game winning streak with three-consecutive victories of 25 points or more, Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team prepares for a home contest with Wright State-Lake on Wednesday before traveling to Ohio Valley on Saturday for its Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener.

Wright State-Lake travels to Sunbury Road for a 5:30 p.m. contest tomorrow as part of the first home doubleheader of the season in Alumni Hall, while Ohio Valley will host Ohio Dominican on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Vienna, West Virginia in the first G-MAC contest of the year for the two squads.

About Ohio Dominican

The Panthers (3-2, 0-0 G-MAC) have scored 92 points or more in their last three games and have defeated their last three opponents by an average of 27.7 points per contest. Most recently, Ohio Dominican topped Lewis at the Hillsdale Lanes Thanksgiving Classic by a final mark of 92-67 and outscored the Flyers 48-26 in the second half. The Panthers topped Purdue Northwest 92-64 last Tuesday and in the second halves of their two games at the Hillsdale Lanes Thanksgiving Classic, ODU outscored its opponents 91-45.

Ohio Dominican is averaging 80 points per game through five contests and is holding opponents to 65.8 points per game on 40.9 percent shooting from the field. In all five games this season, ODU has outrebounded the opposition and holds a 6.4 rebound margin per game over its competitors. Also key to victory in the last three contests for the Panthers has been the ability to take care of the basketball, with just 25 turnovers committed in their last three contests.

The Panthers boast a balanced offensive attack, with five players averaging in double figures in scoring. Sophomore guard Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) scored 46 points in his two games at the Hillsdale Lanes Thanksgiving Classic and went 7-of-10 from three-point range in the win over Lewis. Hickey is averaging 12.4 points per game thus far. Senior guards Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) and Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) are both averaging in double figures. Williams ranks second on the squad in scoring at 11.4 points per game and Waugh is averaging 10.2 points per contest while shooting 92.9 percent from the free throw line (13-of-14).

In the frontcourt, sophomore Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) is averaging 10.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Forward Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) is scoring 10 points per game off the bench, while senior Mike DeLeon (Powell, Ohio) is chipping in with 7.4 points and 7.0 boards per contest.

About Wright State-Lake

The Lakers (1-7) are members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and will be making their first trip to Alumni Hall on Wednesday.

Wright State-Lake is looking to snap a seven-game skid, which included a 100-85 loss at Ohio Valley on Saturday, November 11.

The Lakers are averaging 42.4 rebounds and 16.4 assists per game and have scored 85 points or more on three occasions this season.

Freshman point guard Jordan Gorman leads the Lakers in scoring at 15.1 points per game, with sophomore Quincy Green averaging 10.3 points per contest.

The Fighting Scots (1-2, 0-0 G-MAC) begin conference play on Saturday against Ohio Dominican and will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak after topping Wright State-Lake in their season opener. The contest will mark the eighth meeting between ODU and Ohio Valley, with the Panthers holding a 5-2 edge in the all-time series. The two squads are meeting for the first time as members of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Ohio Valley is surrendering 92 points per game through three contests and is shooting just 24.6 percent from three-point range. The Fighting Scots are forcing their opposition into 17 turnovers per game thus far.

Four OVU players are averaging in double figures, with senior guard Aleksandar Djordjevic averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. David Adeyemo is nearly averaging a double-double for Ohio Valley at 10.7 points and 9.3 boards per contest.
