COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will start the 2017-18 regular season with clashes against Tiffin and Ashland this weekend as part of the GLIAC/G-MAC Challenge.

The Panthers will travel to Tiffin to face the Dragons in their first regular season game on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting Ashland on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the home opener at Alumni Hall.

About Ohio Dominican

ODU (0-0, 0-0 G-MAC) is entering its first year in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and most recently competed against Dayton in exhibition action, falling 79-61 in front of a sold-out crowd at UD Arena. The Panthers held the lead four separate times in the game and held the Flyers to 15 points in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Sophomore guard Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) led Ohio Dominican in scoring with 19 points off the bench on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and connected on 4-of-6 of his three-point attempts. Hickey averaged 12.5 points per game on 46 percent shooting from three-point range in 2016-17, the third-highest three-point field goal percentage for a season in ODU history.

Senior point guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) finished with 15 points against the Flyers and connected on seven free throws. Waugh averaged 8.5 points per game a season ago and hit on 71.3 percent of his free throw attempts. Joining Waugh in the starting backcourt against UD was senior guard Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio), who scored seven points and tallied two assists in 18 minutes. Williams is just 48 points away from becoming the 24th, 1,000-point scorer in Panther history.

The Panthers will play four of their first six contests on the road and will travel to Seton Hill next week for a matchup with the Griffins on Wednesday, November 15 at 7 p.m.

About Tiffin

The Dragons (0-0, 0-0 GLIAC) begin the season by hosting Ohio Dominican Friday before traveling to Lake Erie to face the Storm on Sunday. TU finished 11-17 (6-14 GLIAC) last season en route to a sixth place finish in the GLIAC South.

Austin Adams returns for the Dragons after averaging 15.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last season. Adams notched 31 points and 20 rebounds in Alumni Hall on January 14, 2017 in an 87-85 loss to Ohio Dominican.

Tiffin will rely heavily on its newcomers, with just six players returning to its roster with NCAA Division II experience.

The all-time series between ODU and TU is tied at seven, with the Panthers winning both matchups between the two teams last season by a combined 10 points.

About Ashland

The Eagles (0-0, 0-0 GLIAC) host Lake Erie Friday night before traveling to Sunbury Road to take on the Panthers in ODU's home opener on Sunday.

Ashland is coming off a 19-10 (12-8 GLIAC) season in 2016-17 and finished second in the GLIAC South.

AU was picked to win the GLIAC South this season in the preseason coaches poll and seniors Wendell Davis and Marsalis Hamilton were named to the preseason All-GLIAC South team. Top scorer from a season ago, Ben Haraway, also returns for Ashland.

The Panthers finished 1-1 against the Eagles last season, falling 62-59 on the road on January 12, 2017 before topping AU 80-78 on February 2.
