DAYTON, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team held Dayton to 43 percent shooting from the field in the first half, but 42 second half points for the Flyers powered UD to a 79-61 win over ODU in exhibition action Saturday night at the University of Dayton Arena.

Leading the way offensively for the Panthers was sophomore Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio), who scored 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Hickey racked up eight three-pointers in three separate games last season and scored 19. Senior point guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) tallied 15 points, hitting seven shots from the free throw line. Senior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) pitched in with seven points for Ohio Dominican and junior Ben Casanova (Sylvania, Ohio) recorded a team-high 10 rebounds.

Dayton opened with a 6-2 lead, but a three-pointer by Williams at the 15:41 mark of the first half sparked a 15-9 run for Ohio Dominican over the next 5:54. A three-pointer by Hickey tied the game at 15-15, then the sophomore guard hit two free throws to put ODU ahead 17-15 at the 9:47 mark of the first half.

Trailing 29-21 with 3:24 left in the first half, Hickey buried back-to-back three-pointers to cut Dayton's lead to 29-27 with 2:38 to go until half. The Flyers finished the first frame on an 8-1 run to take a 37-28 lead into the locker room.

Dayton shot 52.9 percent and scored 42 second half points, taking the exhibition contest by a final tally of 79-61.
