HILLSDALE, Mich. — Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team fell 80-71 in a road GLIAC South contest at Hillsdale on Saturday.
The Panthers (11-8, 6-7 GLIAC) held Hillsdale to 34.8 percent shooting from three-point range, but were outrebounded 36-29 by the Chargers and surrendered 19 second-chance points. ODU shot 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from three-point range and connected on 49 percent of its field goals.
Ohio Dominican junior Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) recorded a team-high 14 points, four assists and two steals. Freshman Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) finished with 13 points and a team-high six rebounds. Junior Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) scored 11 points and dished out a team-high five assists, and freshman Sam Hickey (Toledo, Ohio) scored 10 points off the bench for the Panthers.
ODU's largest lead of the game came at the 9:37 mark of the first half, when Hickey connected on a three-pointer to give the Panthers a 24-15 advantage. Hillsdale rallied to take a 36-34 lead into halftime and closed the half on a 19-10 run.
Ohio Dominican trailed 53-44 with 11:19 to go in the second half, but a three-pointer by sophomore Michael Simon (Hilliard, Ohio) sparked a 9-4 run for the Panthers, as Waugh hit a layup at the 9:59 mark to cut the deficit to 57-53.
ODU trimmed Hillsdale's lead to just three at 66-63 with 5:14 to go after a layup by Varence, but the Chargers outscored the Panthers 14-8 for the remainder of the contest, earning the win, 80-71.
The Panthers will look to get back in the win column when they take on Lake Erie at Alumni Hall on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
