COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's basketball team will head to Erie, Pennsylvania this weekend to compete in the 33rd annual Gary Miller Classic, hosted by Gannon University.
On Friday, November 25, the Panthers will take on Malone in the first game of the tournament at 5:30 p.m. If Ohio Dominican defeats Malone, it will face the winner of Gannon against Lake Erie in the tournament championship game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with the losers of Friday's games facing off in the consolation game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Panthers (2-1, 0-0 GLIAC) fell in closely contested, 99-95 (OT) game against St. Joseph's on Saturday and fell in an exhibition contest at Wright State on Monday night.
ODU began the 2016-17 campaign by earning an 86-82 road win over Johnson C. Smith on Saturday, November 12, and followed it up with a 96-73 home victory over Seton Hill on Tuesday, November 15.
The Panthers currently rank second in the GLIAC and 22nd in NCAA Division II in scoring at 92.3 points per game, and second in the GLIAC and 22nd in the country in assists at 19.7 per game. ODU is shooting 53.6 percent from the field, which ranks second in the conference and 12th in the nation, and its 44.7 percent shooting from three-point range is tied for the GLIAC lead and ranks 15th in the country.
Junior guard Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) leads the Panthers and ranks second in the GLIAC in scoring with an average thus far of 21.7 points per game. Williams also ranks fourth in the GLIAC in assists with 5.7 per game.
Freshman forward Hasan Varence (Queens, New York) is averaging 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game to begin the season. His 8.3 rpg ranks fifth in the GLIAC and is first so far amongst freshmen.
Junior guard Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) is averaging seven assists per game thus far to lead the team, tied for second in the GLIAC and comes in at 12th in NCAA Division II.
Malone University is a Christian, private, liberal arts school located in Canton, Ohio and has an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students.
Malone (2-2, 0-0 G-MAC) is sixth in the G-MAC with a 60.5 points per game scoring average. The Pioneers are seventh in the G-MAC in rebounding at 30 rebounds per game and rank third in the conference with 12 assists per contest.
The Pioneers are coming off a 71-67 victory over Alice Lloyd College on Saturday. The squad is led by junior guard Ty Jordan, who leads the team with 16.0 points per game and 4.3 assists per game. Junior forward Mitchell Spotleson is the team's leading rebounder at 6.0 rebounds per game, also contributing 12.3 points per game. Sophomore Nate Sheppard adds 11.7 points per game for the Pioneers.
Ohio Dominican and Malone split their two contests against each other last season, with both teams winning on their respective home courts. Malone leads the all-time series with a 30-15 record against the Panthers.
About Lake Erie
Lake Erie College (0-3, 0-0 GLIAC) is currently 14th in the GLIAC and seventh in the South Division. LEC was picked to finish seventh in the GLIAC South in the preseason coaches' poll.
Lake Erie is currently 11th in the GLIAC in scoring at 75.0 points per game and is 15th in the conference in rebounds per game (27.7). LEC is 13th in the conference in assists (11.7) and fifth in the GLIAC in steals with seven steals per contest.
Senior guard Sean Howard leads Lake Erie with 15.7 points per game. Freshman Gabe Kynard averages 12.7 points per game for the Storm with a team-leading 2.7 assists per contest. Senior forward Nick Wells contributes 12.3 points per game, with freshman guard Jordan Humphrey leading the team with five rebounds per contest.
ODU is 6-12 in the all-time series against Lake Erie. The teams met twice last season, with both teams gaining a victory over the other on their home courts.
Gannon University is a private, Catholic university located in Erie, Pennsylvania with an approximate enrollment of 4,400 students.
The Golden Knights (1-1, 1-1 PSAC) are coming off an 81-48 victory over Cheyney University (Pa.). The squad is currently 13th in the PSAC with a scoring average of 72 points per game and is third in the conference in rebounding at 42 per game. As a team, the Golden Knights average 16 assists per game and block 3.2 shots per contest.
The Knights returned six letter-winners from a team that finished 6-16 last year. They are led by sophomore Evan Phoenix, who averages 22.3 points per game and 13 rebounds per game. Junior guard Zay Jackson leads the backcourt in scoring, averaging 15 points per game, while senior point guard Emmanuel Matey averages 4.5 assist per game to lead the Knights.
The Panthers have never faced Gannon University in their history.
