INDIANAPOLIS – A record-setting performance on Saturday by senior wide receiver Cory Contini (Dover, Ohio) earned him G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week laurels from the league office.
In Ohio Dominican's 66-27 win over Alderson Broaddus, Contini caught eight passes for 175 yards and five touchdowns, a school and G-MAC single-game record for most receiving scores in a contest. The five touchdowns are tied for the most in a game by a Division II receiver this fall, and they gave him 32 scores in his career, which is now the most in ODU history.
Contini caught a four-yard touchdown on ODU's second possession of the game, then erupted in the third quarter, catching touchdowns of 75, six, 36 and 17 yards on ODU's four possessions of the period. He caught five passes for 142 yards in the third quarter alone.
His performance on Saturday also moved him into second place on ODU's all-time receiving list as he now has 2,784 yards, trailing just Dez Stewart (3,197.)
On the season, Contini has 30 catches for 495 yards and 10 touchdowns. He's caught at least one touchdown pass in 12 straight games, and he now has 13 career 100-yard receiving games.
Ohio Dominican hits the road for a 7 p.m. contest at Walsh on Saturday.
