COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Dominican's football team concluded its first practice session of the preseason on Monday under sunny skies.
The Panthers were projected to repeat as G-MAC champions this year in the coaches poll released last week. ODU picked up five of nine first-place votes and finished with 59 total points.
The Panthers finished the 2017 season with a 7-3 record (7-0 G-MAC), capturing the league title with a 49-24 victory over Findlay in the season finale in which ODU outgained the Oilers 516-359.
ODU is scheduled to return 15 of its 21 all-conference players from 2017, including seven first-teamers.
The Panthers will kick off the 2018 season at home at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 against California (Pa.). The Panthers have a 58-20 record since 2011 (.744), winning a pair of conference titles and making two NCAA postseason appearances in that stretch.
