COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior center Andrew Lorenz (Dublin, Ohio) and junior wide receiver Cory Contini (Dover, Ohio) were selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team on Thursday in voting conducted by the region's sports information directors.
Criteria states that candidates must have at least a 3.3 GPA, be sophomores or above, and be a starter or key reserve. Both Contini and Lorenz are now eligible for Academic All-American consideration.
Lorenz, who was named First Team All-Great Midwest earlier today, helped anchor an ODU offense that ranked amongst the country's best. He started all 10 games for the Panthers as ODU averaged 39.5 points per game and 510.5 yards per game. ODU ranked fifth in the nation in total offense, third in passing offense (343.6 yards per game), third in third down conversions (52.9 percent). The Panthers also ranked 14th in the country in red zone offense (90.0 percent) and were 17th in scoring.
A 2015 Honorable Mention All-GLIAC pick, Lorenz started 37 games in his career.
Contini was named the G-MAC Offensive Back of the Year and a First Team All-Great Midwest performer after leading the conference in yards, receptions and touchdowns. He finished with 72 catches for 1,186 yards and 14 scores. He had six 100 yard games and had at least 89 yards in nine games. In the final two games, Contini had 11 catches for 332 yards and seven touchdowns. Nationally, Contini ranks sixth in yards per game, fifth in touchdowns and 13th in receptions per game, leading the conference in all three categories.
In his career, Contini has 147 catches for 2,289 yards and 22 touchdowns. Last year, he earned Academic All-American honors and was also a Second Team All-GLIAC pick.
