Football Picks Up Votes In AFCA Preseason Poll

TICKETS | PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS (8/14)

WACO, Texas – Ohio Dominican's football team sits just outside the Top 25 in the AFCA Preseason Coaches Poll as the Panthers picked up 86 votes in the initial rankings.

That's the sixth-highest total of any team receiving votes outside of the Top 25, and this marks the fifth straight year that ODU has been ranked or at least received votes in the preseason poll. ODU is 40-10 in its last 50 games (.800), and the Panthers are also 42-1 in their last 43 games against unranked opponents (.977).

Ohio Dominican, projected to win the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in the league's preseason coaches poll, finished 2016 with a 7-4 record. The Panthers return 45 letterwinners (25 on offense, 20 on defense) from last year's team. The Panthers have 11 players on offense who started at least three games returning from 2016, along with seven on the defensive side of the ball.

Both of Ohio Dominican's Division II non-conference foes are in the poll, as California (Pa.) is ranked No. 8 and Ashland is also receiving votes. ODU opens on the road at Cal at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, and travels to Ashland for a 7 p.m. kick on Saturday, Sept. 9.
