COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five Ohio Dominican football players were named to the OhioCollegeFootball.com Division II Preseason All-Ohio team, announced today.
Seniors Justin Bell (Columbus, Ohio) and Jake Brandt (Bexley, Ohio), junior Mark Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomores Di'Andre Harrison (Columbus, Ohio) and Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) were selected to the squad.
Bell, who also recently earned Preseason All-American honors from USA College Football, was a First Team All-GLIAC selection at defensive back in 2012. He led the Panthers with 100 tackles and tied for the team lead with three interceptions. Bell registered 11 or more tackles in four games, ranking 10th in the GLIAC in that category. He finished with 16 stops at Hillsdale, earning BSN Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Brandt was a key cog on the offensive line that helped power the Panthers to rank among the nation's best in scoring and rushing last year. An Honorable Mention All-GLIAC pick last year, Brandt was part of a unit that yielded just six sacks the entire season as well, which was fifth-best in the country. Brandt has started 32 consecutive games at right tackle.
Miller returns as ODU's signal caller after picking up Honorable Mention All-GLIAC accolades in 2012. He threw for 2,099 yards and 21 touchdowns, ranking 18th in the country in passing efficiency. Miller picked up GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after accounting for five touchdowns in a win over Findlay and he also threw for four touchdowns in a win over Northern Michigan.
Harrison burst onto the scene midway through the season with a five-tackle, two-sack performance against nationally ranked Ashland, and the defensive lineman would finish the year with a team-high 5.5 sacks and tied for the team lead with 8.5 tackles for loss. Harrison started six games and tallied 36 tackles, including 19 solo.
Wahle garnered Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors as he led all GLIAC kickers in scoring with 87 points as a freshman in 2012. Wahle drilled 10-of-13 field goals and set a school-record by hitting 57-of-58 extra points. He also recorded 15 touchbacks on kickoffs.
Ohio Dominican's football team reports to campus on Sunday, Aug. 11 and has its first practice on Monday, Aug. 12.
