COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican football players Mark Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio), Abe Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) were rated amongst the best players at their respective positions, according to the D2Football.com Preseason Positions Rankings released today.
Miller, who enters his junior year, was rated as the 29th best quarterback in the country. An Honorable Mention All-GLIAC pick in 2012, Miller threw for 2,099 yards and 21 touchdowns in his first season as a starter. Miller completed over 60 percent of his passes as a first-year starter and ranked 18th nationally in passing efficiency. He earned GLIAC Player of the Week honors after accounting for five touchdowns in a 63-31 win at Findlay, and also finished the season with 258 rushing yards and six scores.
Johnson, who will be a junior as well, checked in rated as the No. 63 wide receiver in the country. He led the team with 43 receptions last season while tying for the team lead with eight touchdowns. Johnson was second on the team with 571 receiving yards, including 154 yards in a 56-7 win over Malone. Also a threat in the return game, Johnson tallied 1,181 all-purpose yards.
Wahle, ranked as the No. 20 kicker, enters his sophomore campaign following one of the best seasons by a kicker in ODU history. An Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection, Wahle drilled 10-of-13 kicks and led all GLIAC kickers in scoring with 87 points. He also set a school-record by going 57-of-58 on PAT's, establishing new marks for most makes and best percentage (98.3). Wahle also had 15 touchbacks on his kickoffs.
Ohio Dominican closed the 2012 season with an 8-3 record, including a 7-3 mark and second place finish in the GLIAC. The Panthers kick off the 2013 slate at Georgetown (Ky.) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5.
