Zeller Homers Twice, Baseball Falls Late To #6 Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – Sophomore Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) hit a pair of homers and freshman Michael Lang (Cincinnati, Ohio) also homered, but Ohio Dominican's baseball team couldn't protect a 7-2 lead as Ashland won 8-7 in walkoff fashion in the ninth.

Zeller homered in the second and third innings to help give ODU a 3-2 lead, and a two-run single by senior Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) in the fourth extended the cushion to 5-2.

Lang then followed with a two-run shot to left in the sixth inning to bump the lead to 7-2, but Ashland scored twice in the bottom half to close the gap to three.

ODU had chances in the seventh and eighth, but stranded two runners in both frames, and Ashland scored three times in the bottom of the eighth to draw even.

The Panthers then went down in order in the ninth, and Ashland hit a sac fly to win it in the bottom half.

Junior Logan Brewer (Ashland, Ohio) started and went a career-high 6.0 innings, allowing four runs.

Zeller went 3-for-5 in his first career multi-homer game. Lang went 2-for-4 and senior Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) finished with two hits as well.

Ohio Dominican and Ashland will tangle again in Columbus at 3 p.m. Monday in Panther Valley.
