COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team will tangle with old GLIAC foe Northwood for a three-game series in two cities this weekend.
No. 22 ODU and Northwood will first play a doubleheader at Mason's Prasco Park, starting at 11 a.m. Friday, then will square off at noon on Saturday at Chillicothe's VA Memorial Stadium.
This will be the first meeting between the teams since they split a four-game series late in the 2017 campaign. ODU is 15-9 against Northwood since the 2011 season.
The Panthers won two of three games last weekend against regional foes and sit at 4-1 on the season. ODU is hitting .309 on the season with a .441 on-base percentage, and the Panthers are averaging better than eight runs per game.
Senior Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been hot at the plate, batting .474 with six extra base hits thus far, and has scored 11 runs on the season. He already has four multi-hit efforts this season. Freshman Manny Vorhees (Wapakoneta, Ohio) is hitting .438 with a homer and six RBIs, and senior Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) is hitting .389 with a homer and seven RBIs, along with four steals.
Hillard, Kaucher and junior Joey Machuga (Canfield, Ohio) each have at least one hit in ODU's first five games, and Vorhees has also reached base safely in all five games.
Senior southpaw Garret Sendelbach (Tiffin, Ohio) is pacing the starting rotation with a 3.60 ERA in his two starts, and has limited opponents to a .256 batting average against. Sophomore Ben Speer (Mason, Ohio) logged 4.0 quality innings in the 10-6 win over Grand Valley State on Sunday, allowing just two hits and striking out four in earning the save.
Sophomore Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) also picked up a save as ODU defeated Truman State 7-6 on Friday, fanning three.
ODU pitchers have struck out 41 batters in 38.0 innings of work, with opponents hitting .269 on the season.
