INDIANAPOLIS – After winning the G-MAC regular season crown and finishing as the runner-up in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament, Ohio Dominican's baseball team was picked to win the G-MAC in 2019 in voting conducted by the league's head coaches.
ODU picked up seven first place votes and 136 total points, edging out Kentucky Wesleyan (four first place votes, 130 points) for the top spot in the league. Hillsdale (120 points) and Malone (105 points) also picked up a first place vote apiece.
The Panthers return six everyday starters as well as eight pitchers who saw action during last year's 36-17 campaign.
Offensively, senior catcher Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) is back after hitting .430 with eight homers and 66 RBIs, as is junior third baseman Joey Machuga (Canfield, Ohio) after batting .348 with two homers and 49 RBIs.
Senior outfielder Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) batted .313 with three homers and 38 RBIs and senior Chris Sackett (Loveland, Ohio) hit .299 with three homers and 36 RBIs. Senior outfielder Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio) hit .290 with three homers and 24 RBIs, and senior shortstop Brad Hull (Gahanna, Ohio) batted .284 with 37 RBIs.
The Panthers batted .333 as a team last year and averaged 8.7 runs per game.
On the mound, seniors Mitchell Bault (Maineville, Ohio) and Garret Sendelbach (Tiffin, Ohio) return to the rotation. Both won six games and combined for 133 strikeouts in 137 innings of work last year.
Sophomore Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) is back to lead the bullpen after finishing 5-1 last spring with 36 punchouts.
Ohio Dominican begins the 2019 season on Saturday, Feb. 16 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Grand Valley in Mason's Prasco Park.
