COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team was ranked No. 5 in the NCBWA Midwest Region Preseason Top 10, and senior catcher Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) was named a First Team Preseason pick.
The Panthers finished 2018 with a 36-17 record and were the runner-up in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament. ODU was ranked as high as No. 15 in the nation last year and won four games in the regional tournament, including elimination contests against No. 4 Illinois Springfield and No. 23 Quincy.
Kaucher batted .430 in 47 games last spring with eight homers, 12 doubles, four triples and 66 RBIs. He also scored 54 runs, had a .514 on-base percentage, and slugged .676, while only striking out 15 times in 179 at bats, against 26 walks and eight hit by pitches.
He had 27 multi-hit games and 17 multi-RBI games, took a 23 game hitting streak into the NCAA Tournament, and also had a stretch of reaching base safely in 36 straight games. Facing some of the best pitching in the region, he batted .440 in the NCAA Tournament (11-for-25) with a homer and seven RBIs and had a stretch of reaching base safely in 15 straight plate appearances in the tournament.
In 140 career games played, Kaucher is batting .368 with 12 homers, 33 doubles, 132 RBIs, 107 runs scored, a .445 OBP and a .525 slugging percentage.
Ohio Dominican begins the season with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Grand Valley State on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Prasco Park in Mason.
