#16 Baseball Drops G-MAC Opener 5-4

MASON, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team threatened in the latter innings, but could not complete a comeback against Walsh, falling 5-4 in day one of the G-MAC Championship on Wednesday.

ODU, ranked No. 16 in the nation, falls to 32-14 and will play Trevecca in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Prasco Park.

The Panthers trailed 5-3 heading to the ninth inning, but sophomore Bernee Sanchez (Grove City, Ohio) led off with an infield single and senior Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) drew a walk.

Junior Brad Hull (Gahanna, Ohio) sacrificed both into scoring position, and Sanchez would score on a wild pitch, which sent Paterniti to third as well as ODU cut the deficit to 5-4.

Junior Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) ripped a line drive but right at the Walsh shortstop for the second out, and senior Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch.

However, junior Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) lined out to right to end the game

ODU led early in the game as Hull ripped a two-run double to right center in the second inning, but Walsh answered with a run in the third and four more in the fifth to go in front 5-2.

Paterniti brought the Panthers within 5-3 in the seventh as he doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Childers led the ODU offense by going 2-for-4 with a walk, and Bland drew a pair of walks, but ODU finished with just seven hits in the contest.
