Bault, Baseball Bounce Back In Game Two For Split With Wayne State

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – Junior Mitchell Bault (Maineville, Ohio) threw his third career complete game and six players had multi-hit efforts as Ohio Dominican's baseball team cruised to an 11-0 win in game two against Wayne State after falling 5-1 in the opener on Saturday.

It was the second career shutout for the right-hander, who scattered three hits and walked two while punching out a career-high 10 batters. He threw 69 of his 105 pitches for strikes, and the Warriors did not have a runner advance past first base in the contest.

He received plenty of backing from an offense that cranked out 14 hits in the nightcap. Seniors Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) and Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) and juniors Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio), Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio), Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio) and Chris Sackett (Loveland, Ohio) each had two hits in the ballgame.

Kaucher drove in three runs, drew a walk and scored twice. Childers scored three times and had a walk, while Komminsk and freshman Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) had two RBIs to also lead the Panther offense.

ODU jumped out quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning. Childers doubled, Kaucher tripled and Komminsk doubled to make it 2-0, and junior Max Banke (Oakwood, Ohio) supplied an RBI grounder as well.

A Warrior error extended the lead to 4-0 in the second, and the Panthers continued to pile on in the third. Sackett and Paterniti each singled and Bland doubled to left, bringing home Sackett. With two outs, Childers was intentionally walked to load the bases, then Kaucher drew a walk after a long at bat to bring in Paterniti. Zeller followed with a two-run single to put ODU on top 8-0.

Sackett then cranked a solo shot to right in the fourth inning, his first dinger of the season, and an RBI single by Kaucher and RBI double by Komminsk in the fifth inning rounded out the scoring.

In the opener, ODU hung close, trailing just 2-0 heading into the seventh, but a three-run homer by the Warriors helped put the game away as ODU was out-hit 10-4 in the contest.

The Warriors scored twice in the third inning to take their early lead. ODU stranded a pair in the fourth and fifth innings and tallied its lone run on Komminsk's RBI single in the seventh.

Senior Matt Kittelberger (Massillon, Ohio) started and allowed three earned runs in 6.0 innings, striking out three while walking just one.

The Panthers and Warriors conclude their series with a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday in Chillicothe.
