INDIANAPOLIS – For a second straight week, Ohio Dominican's baseball team earned both the G-MAC North Division Pitcher and Player of the Week, with junior Mitchell Bault (Maineville, Ohio) and sophomore Joey Machuga (Canfield, Ohio) picking up the honors.
Bault and Machuga helped carry the Panthers to a Sunday doubleheader sweep of Grand Valley State (11-7 and 6-1), who was ranked No. 4 in the Midwest Region by the NCBWA.
Bault was the starter in game two against the Lakers and tossed a gem, working 6.0 innings and striking out a career-high nine while allowing just three hits and one run. In two outings this season, he has punched out a G-MAC best 14 batters in 8.0 innings of work while allowing just five hits and two runs.
Machuga, meanwhile, went 4-for-7 with two doubles and six RBIs in the two games to help carry the Panther offense. He had a two-run double in the opener and also scored a run, then had a huge performance in the second game, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a bases-clearing double. Machuga leads the league with 10 RBIs this spring and is tied for the conference lead with three doubles.
The Panthers are currently the only undefeated team in the region, sporting a 4-0 mark. They are scheduled to play three games in Mason this weekend, taking on Tiffin on Friday and Saturday and Mercyhurst on Sunday.
