NCBWA Recognizes Childers, Baseball Just Outside Top 10 In Region Poll

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior first baseman Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) was named to the 2018 NCBWA Midwest Region Preseason First Team and the Ohio Dominican baseball team picked up a pair of votes as well, the organization announced Thursday.

The Panthers sit 12th in the region's preseason voting, which is comprised of the GLIAC, GLVC and G-MAC schools.

Childers is coming off of a junior season in which he was a consensus Second Team All-American and Midwest Region Player of the Year selection. Also named the GLIAC Player of the Year and a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award as the best player in Division II, Childers led Division II in batting average (.451) and slugging percentage (.846) while ranking fifth with a .526 on-base percentage. He tallied 28 multi-hit games and 19 multi-RBI games, finishing the year with 14 homers, 60 RBIs, 17 doubles, five triples and 18 stolen bases while scoring 62 runs.

Ohio Dominican finished 2017 with a 25-24 record and opens the 2018 season with a three-game series against Georgia Southwestern on Feb. 10-11.
