ASHLAND, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team dropped an 11-7 contest at Ashland in a GLIAC contest Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers (24-21, 15-13 GLIAC) finished with 13 hits, but three errors led to five unearned runs.
Sophomore Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) had an RBI single, junior Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) hit a sacrifice fly and sophomore Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) hit an RBI single to help ODU build a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
After the Eagles (20-29, 12-20) scored twice in the bottom of the third, the Panthers came right back with two more runs in the fourth. Junior Lee Sponseller (Mason, Ohio) had an RBI single and Childers followed with an RBI double to put ODU back in front 5-2.
However, Ashland scored five times in the bottom of the fifth, all of them unearned, to take its first lead at 7-5, and then added three more runs in the seventh to make it 10-5.
Junior Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) hit a two-run double in the eighth to cut into the deficit, but was stranded on third base, and ODU left the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
Kaucher finished 3-for-5 and Childers went 2-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs. Bland, Paterniti and senior Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) all had two hits, and Sponseller had a hit and walked twice.
Childers extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games and has nine multi-hit efforts in that stretch.
Ohio Dominican concludes the regular season with a four game series against Tiffin this weekend, starting with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Tiffin.
