CANTON, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team suffered a pair of setbacks at Malone in non-conference play on Wednesday, falling by scores of 8-5 and 6-2.
In game one, ODU fell behind 4-0 through two innings, but cut the deficit in half in the third on a two-run double to left by junior Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio). In the fourth inning, sophomore Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored on a passed ball to make it a one-run game, but Malone countered with four runs in the bottom half to open up an 8-3 lead.
Senior Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) hit a two-run single through the left side of the infield to cut the deficit to 8-5 in the fifth inning, but ODU did not record another hit after that point.
The Panthers were outhit 14-7 in the contest, as Childers and Burson were the lone Panthers with multi-hit efforts.
Sophomore Tim Eidens (Gahanna, Ohio) threw 2.0 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits.
ODU then managed just five hits in the second contest, led by a 2-for-2 effort by sophomore Jace Komminsk (Worthington, Ohio).
Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Komminsk singled and scored on a Malone error, but the Pioneers countered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to go in front 6-1.
Komminsk also scored on a passed ball in the seventh inning to account for ODU's other run.
ODU will travel to Midland, Mich., to take on Northwood in a four game series beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
