PAINESVILLE, Ohio – A ninth inning rally gave Ohio Dominican's baseball team new hope, but the Panthers would fall in the bottom half of the frame to host Lake Erie 6-5 in GLIAC play on Tuesday.

The setback dropped the Panthers to 13-20 on the season (9-10 GLIAC), while the Storm improved to 9-22 (6-12 GLIAC).

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Lake Erie took advantage of a wild pitch to score the contest's first run. The Storm then tacked on two more runs in the fourth on three hits, building a 3-0 advantage.

ODU answered with a tally of its own in the fifth as junior Anthony Raschilla (Girard, Ohio) walked to start the inning, went to second on an error, then later came in to score on another error to make it 3-1.

Raschilla then delivered the big blast in the sixth inning. A leadoff walk to junior Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) was followed by a base hit by sophomore Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio). After the next two hitters were retired, Raschilla smacked a 2-1 pitch over the wall in center field for a three-run homer.

It was the first home run of the season for the designated hitter, who now has five in his career – three of which have come against Lake Erie.

However, the Storm responded quickly, as a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth put Lake Erie back on top, 5-4.

The Panthers managed just one baserunner in the seventh and went in order in the eighth, but sophomore Vince Bartolone (Broadview Heights, Ohio) kept the Storm off the scoreboard to keep it a one-run deficit.

Raschilla, leading off the ninth, singled to center and was replaced by pinch-runner Dylan West (Westerville, Ohio). West moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Phil Jaskot (Upper Arlington, Ohio), then scampered home as pinch-hitter Christian Prince (Hudsonville, Mich.) singled to center to tie the game at 5-5.

ODU was unable to push across the go-ahead run, though, and after a leadoff single and an error in the bottom of the inning, Lake Erie scored the game-winner on a basehit to end it.

Raschilla went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored to pace the Panther offense and sophomore Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio) had two hits, but ODU managed just seven hits total in the setback.

Bartolone took the loss, allowing the one unearned run in 2.1 innings of relief. Senior Alex Borgan (Pickerington, Ohio) started and struck out five but was tagged with five runs in 5.2 innings.

Ohio Dominican returns home to host Malone in a doubleheader in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Panther Valley. Live audio will be available at www.pressboxproductions.net.
