BRISTOL, Tenn. – Sophomore Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) had five total hits and senior Nick Venditti (Brecksville, Ohio) was sharp in four innings on the mound as Ohio Dominican's baseball team split its season-opening doubleheader at King University on Friday.

The Panthers dropped the opener by an 8-5 count to the host Tornados, but rallied for a 9-3 victory in game two.

Tisdale finished the afternoon 5-for-9 at the plate to lead the Panthers' 19 hit attack for the day. Junior Jossue Delgado (Barinas, Venezuela) had three hits in his ODU debut and four other players had multi-hit performances at the plate as well.

Venditti, meanwhile, earned the win in game two with four innings of six-hit ball, allowing just one earned run and punching out three. Sophomore Alberto Canales (West Park, Fla.) closed out King with three innings of two-hit baseball, fanning three hitters as well.

The Panthers scored two runs in each of the first four innings in the win, with Delgado starting the first inning with a single and a steal. Senior Ryan Rovnak (Poland, Ohio) knocked him in with a basehit through the left side, and Rovnak himself would later come in to score on a Tisdale groundout.

ODU scored both of its runs in the second with two out, as Delgado doubled into the gap in left center to bring in sophomores Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio) and Phil Jaskot (Upper Arlington, Ohio). The lead stretched to 6-0 in the third with an RBI double to right center by freshman Collin Parcher (Napoleon, Ohio), and Parcher came in to score on a wild pitch later in the inning.

The Panthers then took advantage of a King mistake, as ODU loaded the bases with two outs, and a Tornado error allowed Delgado and Jaskot to score to push the Panther lead to 8-0. The Panthers would tack on another unearned run in the seventh on a second Tornado error.

Delgado, Tisdale and Rudolph each had two hits in the victory, while Jaskot and Delgado each scored twice.

In the opener, ODU found itself in a 5-0 hole through four innings that it could not dig out of, as the Panthers committed five errors and also left eight runners on base.

The Panther offense responded with a three-run fifth inning, as junior Christian Prince (Hudsonville, Mich.) ripped a three-run triple to right-center, scoring both Tisdale and junior Anthony Raschilla (Girard, Ohio). Sophomore Vince Bartolone (Broadview Heights, Ohio) followed with a basehit to left to score Prince, but the Panthers would strand two runners in the inning, and King answered with a run in the bottom half to take a 6-3 lead.

ODU left two more runners on board in both the sixth and seventh innings, but scored in the eighth on a Tornado throwing error to cut the deficit to 6-4.

Again, King responded, this time tacking on two runs in the home half of the eighth. Rovnak would double to left-center in the ninth to score Schluessler, but was stranded there as the Panthers fell 8-5.

Sophomore Cole Carpenter (Zanesville, Ohio) worked four innings and yielded five runs (two earned) in taking the loss. He struck out three and walked two hitters. Senior Alex Borgan (Pickerington, Ohio) tossed the final four innings and allowed three runs (one earned).

Ohio Dominican closes out its opening weekend of baseball with a noon contest Saturday against Glenville State at King's diamond.
