Panthers Capture Split vs. Indiana Tech
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican baseball team traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana this past weekend for a non-conference doubleheader against the Warriors of Indiana Tech. The Panthers carried over the momentum from a victory against NCAA Division II No. 17 Northern Kentucky University three days earlier to dispose of the Warriors in game one 12-3, but could not hang on in game two falling 9-8.
ODU (5-17) posted back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they cruised in game one 12-3 behind a strong pitching effort by starter Nick Venditti (Fr./Brecksville, OH). The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the first and Venditti took control the rest of the way allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out five. Venditti went six innings of work to collect his second win of the season.
Eian Banks (Sr./Delaware, OH) and Caleb Wilburn (Fr./Delaware, OH) provided the offense, both going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI apiece. JT Feldkamp (Jr./Lorain, OH; pictured) connected on three hits, driving in two RBI.
The Panthers jumped out front again in game two grabbing a 5-0 lead through four innings, but a nine run fifth inning by the Warriors proved too much for ODU to overcome. Despite posting four shut out innings starter Zane Miller (Jr./London, OH) took the loss after surrendering five earned runs in the fifth. The Panthers rallied in the top of the seventh with three runs, but could not send across the tying run as they fell 9-8.
Feldkamp, Wilburn and John Bowron (So./Dayton, OH) had two hits in the loss. Feldkamp and Billy Tecklenburg (So./Troy, OH) had two RBI apiece in the setback.
ODU will return to the field Tuesday, March 30th when they travel to former AMC rival Mount Vernon Nazarene University for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
