Women's Soccer Tops Northwood 2-1 (2OT) In Thrilling GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinal

Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team scored on a penalty kick goal by Kelly Johnson with 4:45 remaining in the second overtime of a 2016 GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal to earn a 2-1 win for ODU over Northwood in front of several hundred fans at Panther Stadium on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

The Panthers finished 7-7-5 (5-3-3 GLIAC) in a 2016 season that culminated with a fourth-place finish in the GLIAC regular season standings and the right to host a GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal match.

ODU held a decisive 41-16 advantage in shots and an 18-7 edge in shots on goal over the Timberwolves and found its way to victory over Northwood for the second time in 2016.

Ohio Dominican's offense struck early in the match, with Madison Baldwin scoring on assists from Johnson and Kethryn Mattingly to give Ohio Dominican a 1-0 lead, just 3:16 into the match.

Northwood countered, scoring in the 16th minute on a penalty kick goal after a foul in the box by Ohio Dominican to tie the game at 1-1.

But the Panthers would score the game winning goal with 4:45 remaining in the second overtime before the match could go to a shootout, as Johnson was fouled in the box and scored on her penalty kick goal to earn a 2-1 (2OT) win for Ohio Dominican.

With the victory, the Panthers advanced to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals for the third-straight year before falling 2-0 to Grand Valley State, which finished as the 2016 NCAA Division II Runner-Up and went unbeaten in GLIAC play.

Ohio Dominican begins the 2017 regular season on Thursday, August 31 with a match against Quincy at Panther Stadium at 5 p.m.
