Doug Carpenter was inducted into the Ohio Dominican University Hall of Fame in 1997-1998. Carpenter was a two-sport athlete for the Panthers, playing both baseball and basketball from 1970-73. Carpenter was the starting pitcher in the first game for the ODU baseball team, throwing out the first pitch in history and getting the team’s first win. He was named first-team All-Mid Ohio Conference in 1972, led the team in batting average, hits and RBIs in the same year and was a member of the first ODU basketball team to make it to the NAIA National Tournament.
